Executive Summary
Tripropylene glycol is a mixture of isomeric chemical compounds formed as a byproduct or coproduct of the manufacture of propylene glycol. Tripropylene glycol is a colorless, nearly odorless, and slightly viscous liquid with a high boiling point. It is hygroscopic, completely soluble in water, and can also dissolve oils. These properties make tripropylene glycol a highly functional solvent used in a variety of applications and product sectors. NOTE: The data provided in this assessment came primarily from the US EPA final designation report, Supporting Information for Low-Priority Substance Propanol, [(1-methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)bis(oxy)]bis- (tripropylene glycol) (https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=EPA-HQ-OPPT-2019-0122-0012). According to US EPA, “low-priority substance designations give the public notice of chemical substances for which the hazard and/or exposure potential is anticipated to be low or nonexistent and provides some insight into which chemical substances are likely not to need additional evaluation and risk management under TSCA.”
